Job Summary

Provides proactive career advising and support services focused on getting students on the right academic pathway. Utilizes a collaborative model of practice to foster an engaging and relevant student learning experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Meets with students participating in Title V activities a minimum of twice per semester to provide timely, proactive advising that links career goals with appropriate program of study, course selection/course sequencing and related support services for the programs offered by the college
• Assists students with career/vocational interest and aptitude inventories and assists students in assessing academic readiness
• Provides new student group advisement
• Collaborates with departments to develop and implement professional development and student success activities/workshops
• Collaborates with key departments and stakeholders to support high school to college transition of T3 participants
• Leads pairing of students in Title V activity with Title V Peer Mentors
• Provides proactive advising that links course work with career and academic goals by appointment and walk-ins
• Develops holistic, individualized academic plans for students participating in Title V activities
• Utilizes relevant and meaningful research on career and industry trends to provide appropriate advising and information to students and inform student support services
• Maintains accurate, up-to-date documentation of student engagement and advising records
• Collaborates with Title V Project Manager and Directors of Advising and Counseling to ensure trustworthiness and reliability of data and data reports
• Collaborates with Student Development Services staff to provide timely interventions to support students and student success
• Utilizes a case management model of advising to provide proactive outreach to help monitor student needs and progress toward goal completion
• Provides follow-up on early alert notifications to identify student needs and provide appropriate support
• Attends the workplace regulatory, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )
• Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
• Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Two (2) years of experience in advising, counseling, career services, student retention, or related student services
• Experience in advising and/or providing support services to students from diverse backgrounds diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds
• Experience with case management

Desired Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures

• Experience as a career advisor in a college or university
• Experience with data collection and reporting
• Experience working in collaborative settings with multiple stakeholder groups

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• Experience working with computerized systems
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
