Assistant/Associate Professor in Data Science

Role Summary

The Department of Analytics in the Digital Era seeks to make an appointment to an Assistant/Associate Professorship in Data Science. 

The role holder will be a member of The College of Business and Economics (CBE). They will be a recognized authority in the field of business, developing and maintaining a high-profile external profile and will become a leading member of a dynamic, cutting edge research culture, having access to the excellent research facilities which UAEU offers. They will have a vital role to play in the development and achievement of CBE within the context of the strategic goals of UAEU, leading research and scholarship in your field.

They will be expected to lead on advanced, internationally excellent research in Data Science, securing high impact research funding, to teach and to supervise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to contribute to admissions, examining and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both the Department and the College.

Key Responsibilities

Assistant/Associate Professors will make a full contribution to the academic life of the University through research, teaching and academic service. They are expected to have extensive teaching experience, together with a significant publication record, proven research experience and to have demonstrated academic leadership and an ability to lead and manage effectively. There is considerable flexibility in the organization of duties and faculty workload planning is undertaken as part of ongoing staff review with the Department Chair in order to ensure appropriate time and opportunity to undertake all duties as well as for professional development. The broad balance of duties for Assistant and Associate Professors includes Teaching, Supervision and Examining (40%), Research (40%) and to contribute to the overall development of the College and Departmental profile as a world-leading provider of data science education, training and research of the highest academic standard (20%).

The College and Department

The Department of Analytics in the Digital Era is pioneering statistical education in the UAE. It is CBE’s mission to provide the business community with highly-educated graduates, by pursuing excellence in teaching, research and community service. Its international faculty have a wide range of research contributions in the areas of applied and theoretical statistics and information systems. They also provide expert advice and consulting services to researchers and various institutions in the country.

The College of Business and Economics was established in 1977 and continues to develop its excellent regional reputation as a center of teaching and research excellence, with more than 1,700 students and a global network of influential alumni. The College’s degree programs are accredited by AACSB International and its faculty are engaged in innovative research that places the College at the center of UAE’s development as a dynamic and innovative knowledge-based economy.

The University offers a competitive compensation package for faculty with a starting annual salary commensurate with experience. In exceptional cases, appointments advertised for posts at Assistant Professor level may be made to Associate Professor. There is the opportunity for promotion in post through the annual review and promotion system.

Education & qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD in Data Science or Statistics and additional qualifications in teaching and learning or other professional skills relevant to a faculty role. It would be preferred if candidates had prior experience of statistical consultancy to researchers and in industry. Other evidence of data science in the field of business and the ability to engage in international-quality research, with publications and other participation in research activities commensurate with stage of career.

Please also include the names of TWO academic references and indicate whether they may be contacted during the application process or only after an offer has been accepted. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed remotely. Final round interviews may be held on campus and candidates may be asked to submit a more detailed research proposal and/or give a short presentation as part of the interview process.
