Overview

Employment Status: Full-Time, Probationary, "Exempt", position.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Anticipated Salary Range: $4,445.00 - $6,224.00 monthy.

Department Summary
Classification & Compensation Services, with the guidance of the California State University (CSU) Chancellor's Office, works in partnership with the colleges and the administrative units to provide assistance in interpreting and applying fair and consistent evaluation of positions and equitable compensation.

The application of processes is in accordance with collective bargaining agreements, applicable laws, personnel policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include classification reviews, approval of position descriptions for job postings, conducting equity analysis for determination of salary upon appointment to the University, conducting in-range progression reviews, equity reviews, and other salary-related alternatives. Also advises and consults with managers regarding position description development and updates, reorganizations, and compensation programs. Additionally, the Classification & Compensation Services manages the campus-wide Position Description Library for state employees.

Typical Activities
Under the general direction of the Manager, the Classification and Compensation Analyst is primarily responsible for assessing staff position descriptions to ensure staff positions are appropriately classified; compiles CSUSB compensation data analysis reports for various salary studies; assists in reporting classification and compensation information to the CSU Chancellor's Office, including information for CSU Meet and Confer sessions during Classification and salary range negotiations; interprets and applies Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) interpretation of salary programs, as well as complex and sensitive CSU Classification Standards and technical letters.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Public Administration, or related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years in responsible office work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with conducting salary analysis, equity reviews, and compensation reporting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the CSU Classification process is preferred, along with a working knowledge of CSU classification procedures.
  • Experience with contributing to large compensation projects is desired. Working knowledge of the Cherwell workflow software is also desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Extensive working knowledge of HR Workforce Administration, Position Management, Workforce Development.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Applicants must have the ability to independently draft compensation and classification correspondence to Collective Bargaining Unit staff.
  • The ability to independently research, analyze, and evaluate collective bargaining related to salary documentation.
  • The ability to independently communicate various salary programs, which are contained in each of the CSU's collective bargaining agreements.
  • The ability to adhere to CBA timelines and provide sensitive information to Class and Comp requests.
  • The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with collective bargaining representatives.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
