Director - TRIO Undergraduate Programs

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
This role is responsible for the complete oversight of the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center and TRIO Student Support Services federal grant programs to insure achievement of programs' objectives. The director is response as the designated liaison to the US Department of Education for these programs and is responsible for budget administration, staff supervision, provision of services to eligible participants, program evaluation and performance reporting and advising students and prospective low income and first generation eligible participants on enrolling in and completing a program of post secondary education.

Key Roles & Responsibilities: List up to 6 key roles and responsibilities of this position. Include the percent of time for each. Must total 100%, nothing smaller than 10%, or greater than 40% % Time
1. Plan, supervise, direct, evaluate and adjust programs, personnel, and procedures of UVU's TRIO EOC and SSS programs in accordance with institutional, state and federal policies, procedures and regulations.25%

2. Ensure the financial stability of the budget through appropriate management, allocation, and accountability of resources according to-institutional policies and procedures.and US Department of Education regulations 20%,

3. Collaborate with departments, colleges, schools, and other universities to fulfill mission of TRIO SSS & EOC programs. Represent TRIO SSS, EOC and the University externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and/or the general public, Serve as an academic leader and advocate for student success through establishing andmaintaining professional relationships with faculty, stf, and students. 25%

4. Maintain a caseload of TRIO SSS & EOC participants. Counsel participants in the development of educational plans, deciding on majors, and on other relevant academic matters. Assist TRIO SSS participants with course selection and registration byinterpreting assessment test scores. Provide assistance and guidance for TRIO SSS participants in completing financial aid applications,locating scholarships, applying for admissions to graduate and professional programs, and in other educational matters relevant toundergraduate students. 20%

5. Research, publish and/or present information detailing new initiative to improve student success and retention locally, regionally, and nationally.Prepare and submit annual performance reports and other data as needed by the university and/or grant agency. Maintain expertise on program trends, data and educational practices to support the continuation of TRIO SSS & EOC. Complete other responsibilities, tasks, assignments, and/or duties as assigned by supervisor. 10%

6. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of experience related to the summary of duties.

  • Knowledge of the academic, economic, social, and cultural needs of students traditionally underrepresented or underserved in higher education with a special focus on low income, first generation, and students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of academic counseling methods, techniques, federal & state laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of educational theory and praxis related to preparation for, enrollment in, and persistence through programs of higher education focusing on low income, first generation and students with disabilities as well as other identities traditionally underserved and underrepresented in higher education.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and objectives of educational organizations.
  • Skill in data collection, analysis, report writing, and federal grant acquisition and management.
  • Skill in budget management and record keeping.
  • Skills in formulating and conducting formative and summative evaluations.
  • Skills in supervising others, coordinating activities, staff evaluation.
  • Skill in managing budgets.
  • Skills in training staff.
  • Skills in working with diverse individuals.
  • Skills in navigating higher education admissions processes.
  • Skills in helping others to navigate federal financial aid and scholarship applications and process.

  • Ability to gather and analyze data as a management tool.
  • Ability to supervise and motive staff members over a large geographic area.
  • Ability to provide secondary and postsecondary advisement, assistance and support to first generation college students.
