Job Description:

The Department of Health Studies is seeking a full time Instructor to teach courses in Health Studies and Community Health. The Health Studies curriculum is designed to prepare students for successful transfer to 4-year didactic programs in Health Sciences, Allied Health, Health Administration and Public Health. A certificate program in Community Health Worker/ Case Manager is offered as a stackable credential and may be taken in conjunction with the A.S. in Health Studies. The curriculum includes coursework in health professions, health care systems, health promotion, the social determinants of health, community health and practicum in health care. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate is expected to participate in curriculum/organization updates and improvements, internship development, student advisement, departmental, college activities and active involvement with student clubs and local professional organizations.  The position is tenure track with a teaching load of fifteen (15) contact hours, plus a minimum of five (5) office hours per week.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master's degree in Public Health or a related health care profession, with one (1) year of experience in teaching undergraduate college students in the classroom, is required. A minimum of one (1) year of related work experience in the field of public or community health with a strong knowledge of current trends in health care education is also required.  All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Two (2) years of related work experience in the field of public or community health with a strong knowledge of current trends in health care education is strongly preferred.  A familiarization with the operation of public and community health agencies, and in-depth knowledge of current trends in health care education and health care policy is preferred. Participation in the National Association of Community Health Care Workers is desirable. The ability to teach all classes offered in the Health Studies and Community Health certificate program, and strong managerial skills are desirable. 


Additional Information:

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $64,841 plus excellent benefits.
