The Department of Information Science, one of three departments in the College of Information, promotes the understanding of, access to and use of information through teaching, research and service activities. The department prepares information and data professionals of the highest quality to serve in dynamic roles locally, nationally and globally. Faculty members of the department measure their success by the success of their students and the quality of intellectual contributions to the profession and society.
The American Library Association has accredited the department’s master’s program continuously since 1965. The department also offers two bachelor’s degrees in Information Science and Data Science, graduate-level certification in school librarianship, master’s degree in Data Science, post-master’s certificates of advanced study, and a doctoral degree in Information Science. The Department of Information Science (IS) in the College of Information of the University of North Texas invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) position with a research and teaching focus in Library Science. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Law Librarianship, Academic Libraries, Special Libraries and Library Management.
We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and teaching, who can leverage the strengths of the department’s dynamic faculty and programs, and who will build collaborative relationships in the University and profession.

This is a nine month, full-time, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to show evidence of or develop a record of scholarly research necessary to earn tenure. The candidate must demonstrate ability to design and deliver courses in a variety of formats, including online and hybrid modalities, and is expected to teach core courses and specialized courses with emphasis on libraries and the management of libraries. The candidate is also expected to coordinate students’ practicum experiences, work closely with doctoral students and serve on dissertation committees, and develop close relationships with practitioners and educators in Library & Information Studies.
Candidates must have a master’s degree from an ALA accredited program and an earned doctorate in Library and Information Science or related field; and demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, research, and scholarship with experience/expertise in broad areas of Library and Information Science. Applicants seeking appointment with tenure at the associate professor rank must meet UNT’s criteria for tenure at the associate professor level.
The Department seeks candidates with expertise in two or more of the following areas: Law librarianship, Academic Libraries, Special Libraries, or Library Management. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of, or demonstrated potential for, success in obtaining extramurally funded research; a demonstrated commitment to diversity as evidenced by their teaching, research and service to the profession; and experience mentoring and advising graduate students at the Ph.D. level.
