The Admissions and Advising Department is recruiting for an Admissions and Academic Advisor, Outreach to join the team.

Works closely with high school guidance counselors to assist students in matriculating to the college. Responds to all forms of inquiries regarding the college's programs and services for students, parents, public and private school personnel, businesses, agencies, organizations, and others. Assists with collection of data related to various admissions programs. Coordinates special programs, events, tours, information sessions, and other activities. Assists with the development and revision of major outreach publications and online services for the secondary school population and with the development and maintenance of the office's web site, particularly as it relates to middle and high school students. Interprets college policies and procedures for prospective and currently enrolled students. May serve as the veterans advisor for the active military and veterans population. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is extremely important for enrollment management and the community's image of the college, particularly in relation to public school constituencies.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Serves as one of the main college liaisons to the county's public, private, and parochial school, military, and community constituencies.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of outreach strategies for targeted populations and programs.
  • Provides pre-enrollment admissions advising to prospective students, including middle school, high school, military, and adult students, as well as students with special needs such as students with disabilities and international students.
  • Coordinates specialized admissions processes for the James W. Rouse Scholars, Frederick K. Schoenbrodt Scholars, STEM Scholars, Freshman Focus, Silas Craft Collegians, Dual Enrollment and JumpStart including information sessions, applicant tracking, communications management, and all processes involved in outreach and admissions for these programs.
  • Serves on admissions selection committees and other committee's as needed.
  • Represents the college at most major outreach events such as college, community, business, and career fairs.
  • Provides academic advising services for all students with a special focus on the academic success and goal completion of incoming Honors, Freshman Focus, Dual Enrollment and JumpStart students.
  • Provides academic advising to various student cohorts in particular active military and veterans.
  • Serves as key member of academic standing team, including working with students who are on academic warning and probation.
  • Works closely with high school guidance counselors to assist students in matriculating to the college.
  • Uses the college's Customer Relations Management System (CRM) to review applications and communicate with prospective students.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding the college's programs and services from students, parents, school personnel, businesses, agencies, organizations, and others.
  • Assists with admissions-related communications management development and processes.
  • Coordinates special events, tours, information sessions, and other activities.
  • Assists with the development and revision of major outreach publications for the secondary school population and with the development and maintenance of the office's web site, particularly as it related to middle and high school students.
  • Provides initial reviews of graduation applications.
  • Assists with the development and updating of the office's web site, particularly as it relates to middle and high school students.
  • Interprets college policies and procedures for prospective and currently enrolled students.
  • Updates knowledge by attending workshops, conferences, meetings, and participating in other professional development opportunities.
  • Assists with developing and compiling reports regarding high school enrollment and with data integrity and maintenance of records related to secondary school admissions programs as well as advising records.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of online record keeping processes and other record keeping processes related to recruitment, admissions, and advising.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social science, student development or related field required and three years' experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Admissions, academic advising and/or teaching experience required.
  • Excellent oral (particularly public speaking), writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience with high school students and diverse populations strongly preferred.
  • Excellent technology skills required; knowledge and experience with MS Office, Windows, Ellucian Colleague (or similar student system), digital imaging software, CRM, social media, virtual platforms and other software applications strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while providing excellent customer service.
  • Bilingual skills desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Regular attendance and ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, is a requirement of this job.
  • Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Admissions (Outreach). May supervise hourly admissions counselor. Occasional supervision of Information Specialist (Outreach), work study students, and special project and/or seasonal employees. May be occasionally designated to supervise office.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequently lift and transport heavy materials and recruitment displays, stand for lengthy periods of time and work in crowded, noisy conditions. Work extended hours during peak periods. Substantial evening and weekend work. Challenging balance of frequent and extended virtual, off-campus activities and conducting on-campus business involving extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, meetings, etc. Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast paced environment. Flexibility required.

Additional Information:

Hours Per Week: 37.5 hours
Work Schedule: M - F, 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with some events and weekend work necessary
Compensation: $55,191 plus excellent medical & dental, tuition reimbursement and paid leave

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
