VICE PRESIDENT UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT

Central Washington University, one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier universities, announces a nationwide search for its next Vice President of University Advancement. The CWU Board of Trustees and Foundation Board seek a proven, innovative leader who can join with new President James Wohlpart to further build upon the University’s success and excellence.

Founded in 1891 as a teaching school (the Washington State Normal School), CWU has grown into a comprehensive university with four colleges (Arts and Humanities, Business, Education and Professional Studies, and Sciences) and eight University Centers and instructional sites.

Located in the heart of Washington state, about 90 minutes east of Seattle, CWU enrolls more than 12,300 students, employs nearly 1,200 FTE faculty and staff, and has an annual budget of more than $350 million. CWU has consistently ranked as one of the top “Best Bang for Your Buck” universities in the West and is the only state university to earn the prestigious Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award in five of the past six years.

Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President of University Advancement (VPUA) is responsible for cultivating a culture of philanthropy across the university and for managing the Department of University Advancement. The VPUA serves as the Executive Director of the CWU Foundation and is responsible for managing the Foundation’s business affairs and guiding and supporting the work of the Foundation Board of Directors. The VPUA is responsible for providing inclusive and strategic leadership to advance fundraising and alumni engagement, and for leading the design and implementation of comprehensive development campaigns.

CWU alumni are part of a global network of nearly 100,000 who are fueling the remarkable success in the development of the CWU Foundation, only really activated during the Great Recession. CWU recently earned an Educational Fundraising Award from CASE recognizing remarkable work of this young organization since 2015: a 16.5 percent increase in donor retention, a 32 percent increase in Foundation assets, and a 320 percent increase in yearly giving. A campaign feasibility study registered positive responses from 98 percent of those surveyed; 75 percent indicated a desire to participate directly in the campaign.

The VPUA is a strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion in initiatives of the Foundation, as well as CWU. (A ‘Position Description’ is available on the CWU website at www.cwu.edu/executive-search/ua/position-overview).

While applications and nominations will be received until a new VPUA is selected, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our Consultant at the address below by April 30th to receive optimal consideration. Application materials should include a letter of interest and a current CV.
