Trinity Washington University

Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions

Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions (NHP).  The NHP unit includes baccalaureate and master’s degrees in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, Health Services and Public Health.  NHP currently enrolls more than 300 students in all programs and anticipates future growth to meet regional healthcare workforce needs.  NHP programs have specialized accreditation from CCNE, ACOTE and CACREP.  Trinity’s Nursing Program boasts a 100% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX exam.  More than 90% of the students are women of color, reflecting Trinity’s historic mission in women’s education with a distinctive focus on the educational needs of African American and Latina residents of metropolitan Washington.

Reporting to the Provost and working cooperatively with deans across the university, the NHP dean will be a progressive leader, knowledgeable across the range of health professions and open to learning about the disciplines of Trinity’s faculty experts.  The dean will be able to express a vision for development of Trinity’s health professions programs aligned with evolving needs of the healthcare workforce, and to translate that vision into strategic plans for new programs and curriculum development.  The dean is responsible for nurturing Trinity’s broad network of external partnerships with healthcare providers who are sources of clinical placements, strategic information and program support.

The dean must be a team builder able to create and nurture a culture of collaboration and innovation within the NHP unit and among Trinity colleagues, engaging all members of the diverse faculty groups in advancing the quality and effectiveness of their own disciplines and inter-professionally as well.  Candidates must demonstrate a track record of effectiveness in communication and advocacy.  Evidence of experience with data-driven decision-making to create changes in programs and services will be an advantage.  Candidates should also have some experience with specialized accreditation of health professions programs.

As one of the nation’s historic Catholic women’s colleges, now a university sustaining the undergraduate women’s college along with coeducational graduate and professional programs, Trinity has a deep mission commitment to principles of social justice and racial equity. With all Trinity colleagues, the dean will be deeply devoted to ensuring success for Trinity students, being their advocate for racial and social equity in the health professions, promoting inclusive excellence in programs, pedagogies and policies that will ensure student progress.  Related, the dean must be able to develop programs for faculty education to support their professional growth and teaching effectiveness including enlarging faculty expertise in online teaching and the use of simulation in the healthcare disciplines.

An earned doctorate in a healthcare discipline is required.  At least 10 years of professional experience is required; experience in clinical practice in a healthcare field is preferred, along with collegiate teaching experience as well as experience in administration, preferably in a university program. Experience with online education for the health professions is an advantage.  Candidates must manifest superior abilities in written and oral communication, budget and personnel management, strategic and tactical planning.

Candidates should submit a complete c.v. along with a letter no more than 2 pages long stating how their experience aligns with the expectations for this position.  Please submit your application to the link below.
