Job Description
This full-time faculty position may require teaching in any of the nursing programs at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC), which include the ADN, PN, and the NA programs on either campus.

 

Faculty members are required to provide a positive, caring, and dynamic learning environment that inspires student success, values diversity, promotes community vitality and embraces LFCC’s vision and values. Faculty members are required to work to help further the goals of LFCC and the nursing program and support policies and procedures dictated by the Virginia Community College System. Responsibilities of this position will include serving on college committees (as assigned), evaluating and revising the curriculum, participating in monthly information sessions, and assisting with program assessment and development, as mandated by the Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC). Faculty members are to engage in activities that demonstrate a commitment to students, community organizations, and/or the college.

 

Typical loads for full-time faculty at LFCC are normally 15 credit hours per semester, during the academic year, with 10 office hours required each week.

 

Nursing faculty members are also required to collaborate with others (full and part-time employees) to ensure teaching uniformity and continuity of material and expectations.

 

Duties also include monthly information sessions, academic advising, recruiting, tutoring, developing, implementing and evaluating the associate degree philosophy and objectives.

 

Faculty will seek out opportunities for increasing response rates on student surveys. Faculty will analyze student ratings of instruction and other student feedback, identify trends needing improvement, and implement an action plan to accomplish that improvement. Faculty will respond constructively to student comments and questions and require the same nature of response from students. Faculty will respond promptly to student emails, phone calls, or other communications (within 2 business days).

 

Faculty will publish office hours throughout the semester (and delineate virtual versus in-person).

 

Teaching schedule may include day, evening, weekend, and on and off-campus, distance learning, web delivery, and instructional laboratory and clinical assignments.

 

Faculty members will be required to use state-of-the-art classroom teaching technologies. Faculty will engage in activities that keep them current in nursing, require the use of knowledge from nursing, expand knowledge of nursing or otherwise exercise competence in nursing. Faculty will engage in activities that keep them current in pedagogy and curriculum and will participate in personal growth, wellness and/or self-care activities.

 

May be required to perform other duties, as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

 

Compensation
Faculty Positions:
The minimum salary for the position is $43,776.00 per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is a 9 month faculty role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. Lord Fairfax Community College, located in the Northern Shenandoah Valley is accepting applications for adjunct, part-time faculty (day, evening and weekend) positions for Adjunct Faculty. Positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities include teaching college level courses, which may include distance learning on and off campus courses during the day, evening and weekends.

Required Qualifications       

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Demonstrated direct client care experience as a registered nurse.
  • Current, Unrestricted Registered Nurse License in Virginia or multi state licensure privilege.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of the clinical facilities.
  • Evidence of positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, other professionals, and the public.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

Preferred Qualifications     

  • Graduate degree preferably with a major in Nursing (strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated teaching and simulation experience. Preference given to candidates with prior college teaching experience, significant job-related experience, and/or previous teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Experience with Canvas or other online delivery technologies
  • Experience with simulation models and scenarios in a nursing program
  • Experience with recruiting, retaining, and advising, and counseling students.
