Research Technician III

Summary

The Tom Cooper lab is looking for a highly motivated individual for molecular and cell biology research. We use mice to investigate gene expression regulation during heart and skeletal development and as models to investigate mechanisms of the form of muscular dystrophy called myotonic dystrophy. The position requires use of molecular biology techniques to genotype mice and maintain mouse colonies, perform molecular analyses such as western blots, RT-PCR and immunofluorescence microscopy. The individual should enjoy being organized and detail oriented. The lab provides an interactive and stimulating environment with opportunities for independence and career growth.

Job Duties

• Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
• Collects, compiles and analyzes data
• Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
• Documents results of experiments.
• Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
• Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field.
• Direct research experience with at least two of the following: maintaining mouse colonies, PCR, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, PCR, genotyping, western blotting, immunofluorescence or in situ hybridization microscopy.
