Clinical Assistant Professor, Indigenous Studies, Native Languages

Position Summary

The forthcoming Department of Indigenous Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York is seeking a specialist in Haudenosaunee language and Indigenous Studies (specializations open) to teach up to four (4) courses per semester at the introductory and advanced undergraduate level.

The successful applicant will teach courses in a Haudenosaunee language. In addition, the successful applicant may also teach Indigenous Studies courses on an array of topics relevant to their expertise (Haudenosaunee culture, Indigenous knowledge, Land based learning curriculum, Introduction to Native studies, Native film and media, Indigenous women, Indigenous literature, material culture, contemporary or historic Indigenous studies). Depending on qualifications, the successful applicant might be considered for occasional graduate-level courses. Strong methodological skills are desirable.

This is a non-tenure-track position with an initial three-year appointment. This full-time appointment carries generous benefits. Future reappointments will be based on performance and College need.

Minimum Qualifications

Haudenosaunee language teaching education, experience, and references. Experience in teaching Indigenous Studies courses.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD (or ABD near conferral). Expertise in teaching Indigenous languages and ongoing, verifiable relationships with an Indigenous community.
