Job Summary

The director of community standards is responsible for managing the Lindenwood University student conduct system, which is utilized in adjudication of all non-academic student conduct. The director will educate and support students, ensure their safety and security and endorse ethical and responsible conduct.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Designs and delivers educational programs promoting good citizenship, civic engagement and community among the student body
  • Advises leadership on legal and policy developments and issues, including compliance with legislative, professional and university regulations including Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Clery Act
  • Works with campus partners to monitor compliance concerns related to Title IX, Clery Act and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
  • Acts as a liaison to the university’s general counsel on student conduct matters
  • Serves as chair of the community standards hearing officer meeting
  • Manages annual policy review of student conduct processes, procedures and programs and oversees development and revisions, including solicitation and implementation of input from university community
  • Oversees management of all undergraduate and graduate discipline files and data, including management of and training for the case management database; prepares regular reports of key statistics and identifies trends
  • Oversees the administration of effective and timely case management, including attending pre-hearing meetings and hearings and communicating with accused students, complainants, witnesses and parents
  • Assures consistent and timely attention to all discipline referrals via appropriate student conduct processes
  • Manages and coordinates investigative follow-up on student conduct matters with Public Safety and Housing and Residential Life

  • Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports and holds others accountable to university values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork

Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Serves as the Student Affairs designee, leading and managing all undergraduate and graduate student conduct functions
  • Oversees hearing and college policy training for hearing officers
  • Monitors and evaluates, in partnership with Public Safety and Residential Life, college policy enforcement procedures and identifies improvements
  • Oversees implementation of conflict resolution services, including conflict coaching, facilitated dialogues and mediation, employing components of restorative justice as casework allows
  • Oversees annual publication of the Code of Community Standards
  • Oversees training for student leaders, resident assistants, faculty and staff on student conduct procedures and university policies
  • Oversees implementation and evaluation of educational programming and resource materials about integrity and student ethical development and conduct
  • Collaborates with the Student Counseling and Resource Center to manage sanctions associated with alcohol and drug violations, as well as anger management

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible leadership roles in judicial affairs or student conduct field

  • Knowledge of student group advisement and organizational development, student and staff training development, student leadership program development and student development theory
  • Knowledge of higher education policies, disciplinary processes and legal affairs
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents and alumni
