The College of Media & Communication seeks an outstanding faculty member who has demonstrated commitment to excellence in both online and on-campus teaching to join our Master’s in Strategic Communication & Innovation and Master’s of Mass Communications programs. This new position results from a joint venture between Texas Tech University and Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where TTU will offer face-to-face graduate classes to AC students. 

 

The appointment begins fall 2021 with an option to begin in summer 2021. Duty point is based in Sherman, Texas, on the Austin College campus.

 

MAJOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The teaching assignment will consist predominately of both online and on-campus graduate courses with some opportunities to teach online undergraduate classes. The teaching load is seven courses per academic year (3/4) with the opportunity to teach additional courses during summer or intersessions for additional compensation.

 

The appointment will comprise 80% teaching; 20% service. A portion of the service component will be dedicated to advising students that are matriculating through the Austin College facility. Holding student recruiting events in the DFW region as well as on the Austin College campus will also be expected. While a peer-reviewed research agenda for the hire is not expected, annual evaluation will include review of faculty member’s efforts to maintain professional currency.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Successful applicants will hold a minimum of a master’s degree in strategic communication or a related area (e.g., advertising, public relations, etc.). A Ph.D. in a media or communication field is preferred. The successful applicant should also have experience teaching both face-to-face and online courses in public relations, advertising, digital communication, social media and/or strategic communication.  Professional experience in applied communication settings is also desired. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.

The College of Media & Communication (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/comc/) at Texas Tech University offers bachelor's degrees in Advertising, Communication Studies, Journalism, Creative Media Industries, Public Relations, and Media Strategies. It offers master's degrees in Mass Communication, Communication Studies, and Strategic Communication and a Ph.D. in Media and Communication.
