Head of Systems Development, University Libraries

Head of Systems Development: Reporting to the University Librarian, the Head of Systems Development is responsible for oversight and management of all information technology assets deployed at Old Dominion University Libraries. The scope of oversight performed by the position includes enterprise systems administration, resource discovery and electronic resource management, website and intranet administration, desktop support, digital storage management, and technology training. The Head of Systems Development works successfully with University Information Technology Services, Procurement Services, and vendors to accomplish complex, collaborative projects that benefit the University community. Position collaboratively manages the priorities, organizational structure, budget, and future directions of the University Libraries. In a fast-paced, complex environment, this position identifies, develops and manages adoption of technology infrastructure necessary to meet current and future needs of faculty, students, and Libraries’ personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS  

Required: Master’s Degree in library and information science, computer science or related field. Considerable knowledge and understanding of key issues and trends in digital initiatives and information technology, academic libraries, and higher education; considerable leadership and managerial skills including excellent analytic, creative, and innovative problem-solving abilities; some knowledge of web programming languages (e.g.: Javascript, HTML and CSS) and web accessibility standard; basic familiarity with Ivanti Portal Manager; some familiarity with RDA and MARC, Dublin Core metadata standards and library best practices; considerable communication skills to effectively communicate issues, concerns and ideas to the appropriate personnel; some progressively responsible experience with information technology; considerable commitment to user-centered services and service excellence to all constituencies; some project management experience; some experience in managing a Library Services Platform; some experience in building and sustaining effective interpersonal relations with library staff, campus administrators, faculty, and students; some experience in Desktop Support; basic experience with a Web Content Management System  

Preferred: ALA accredited MLIS degree or international equivalent; ability to work both as a team member and independently; some knowledge of information technology support ticketing systems and workflows; some knowledge of user authentication/authorization protocol; some demonstrated proficiency in programming languages, relational database management and systems analysis; some administrative and management experience in an academic or other library of comparable size; some experience in managing Ex Libris Alma/Primo systems; some experience in managing various technologies such as open source systems, electronic resources, server infrastructure, network infrastructure, public/staff computing areas, digital collections; some experience conducting technology training.
