Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, invites applications for the Besl Family Chair in Ethics/Religion and Society. This visiting faculty position is open to promising early-career scholars in the humanities and is renewable annually for up to 3 years. A Ph.D. is required by start of the position in the fall of 2021.
The E/RS focus within Xavier’s core curriculum includes courses in philosophy, theology, and literature, as well as other courses that foster interdisciplinary engagement with socially significant religious and/or ethical issues. The E/RS Program also sponsors visiting speaker series and community roundtables. For more information, visit http://www.xavier.edu/ers/ . The Besl Chair will teach 3 undergraduate courses per year in some area of the E/RS focus of the core and help to support the 2021-2024 E/RS speaker series, working with the incoming director of the program. Applicants should be familiar with interdisciplinary issues such as those discussed in E/RS courses, and should have a robust program of research.
The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities.
