Position Summary:

This position will be responsibile for leading and advising Student Building Managers in maintaining a safe, secure and customer focused environment in the Wisconsin Union facilities. Student Building Managers at the Wisconsin Union are true student leaders authorized to provide direction to staff on evenings and weekends. Ability to meet and deal effectively with people and maintain a good working relationship with students, co-workers, faculty, staff, administration, and the public.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred, preferably in a field emphasizing student development and/or developing student leadership skills.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

* 1-3 years of experience working with college students in an advising and/or supervising capacity, including familiarity with the goals of work place-based education and team driven environments.
* At least 1 year experience in student services, event planning or related areas. Preferably experience includes management of alcohol service at events that include those not yet of drinking age.
* At least 1 year experience managing or facilitating a customer service program.
* Demonstrated ability to plan and manage a program within budgeted guidelines.
* Experience with management of cash handling is preferred.
* Experience in group process and collaborative decision-making.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union, the University's Division of Social Education, is an integral part of the education program of the University, complementing the classroom experience with out-of-class learning opportunities. It is a setting in which students can develop leadership skills and experience personal fulfillment. The Union offers cultural, social and recreational programs that make study and leisure cooperative factors in education.

The Wisconsin Union operates two buildings on the UW-Madison campus. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by twenty-two food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $45 million dollars.

The Wisconsin Union is part of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the
vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them
succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.

Standard work hours for this position: Tuesday through Saturday 2pm-10:30pm, the schedule will vary based on event demands.
