Operate and maintain safe clean interdisciplinary fabrication shops for the college of Visual and Performing Arts. The focus of this position would be utilizing and implementing wood, metal and plastic fabrication equipment. They would demonstrate a working knowledge of digital fabrication techniques that could be used in traditional practices. They would operate in spaces where students and faculty are engaged in advanced fabrication and materials research. They function to give students an intimidation free and safe learning environment, equipped with modern technologies in support of curriculum, with which they can research, explore, and create through various materials, processes and techniques.

Qualifications

• College degree in related field (Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Sculpture, Studio Art, Theatrical Technical Direction, etc.) or relevant work experience.

• Two (2) plus years teaching/mentoring in shop-related field. However, all teaching/mentoring experience will be considered.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of wood, metal and plastic fabrication techniques.

• Proficiency with one or more of the following: Digital fabrication (3d printing, laser cutting, 3d scanning, CNC routing, etc.)
Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino/RhinoCam,
Autodesk Suite ( ACAD, Fusion360), Solidworks Inventor, or Microsoft Office Suite (Excel/Word).

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction on safe use of power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, saws, drills, grinders, welders, pressure pots, hand tools, etc. for students, faculty and staff.

• Maintain health and safety standards as dictated by University and government regulation.

• Maintain and repair equipment as necessary, implement upgrades.

• Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, machine parts, consumables, and hand tools.

• Work with Director of Fabrication Shops to continually review and improve shop practices and interfaces with curriculum.

• Operate and provide instruction on CNC routers, laser cutters, 3d printers, 3d scanners, audio/video equipment, etc. for students, faculty and staff.

Lifting and moving shop equipment and materials as needed.
