The Department of Educational Leadership within the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW ) seeks an outstanding Visiting Assistant Professor for a nine-month, non-tenure track/non-tenured position in the Higher Education program beginning August of 2021. This is a one year fixed-term appointment, renewable year to year, up to three years.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:
• Developing and teaching campus-based and web-enhanced hybrid courses or fully online courses in dynamic graduate programs focused on Higher Education
• Assisting in the ongoing development of growing M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs in Higher Education, including a graduate certificate in Community College Leadership
• Advising students through completion of internships, culminating projects, and independent studies
• Engaging in scholarly activities through research, presentations, and/or involvement professional/scholarly associations
• Contributing expertise to department, college, and university committees

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Applicants for this position must hold a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in
Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field from an accredited (U.S.)
or certified (international) postsecondary institution.

ABD candidates may be considered, dependent upon projected date that the
doctorate degree will be conferred.

• Demonstrated evidence of engagement in teaching, research, and service that contributes to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Preference will be given to those candidates who:

• Have a demonstrated evidence of successful college-level teaching and mentoring of graduate students.
• Have experience and expertise to teach a range of courses, particularly: law and policy, assessment, research methods, social justice, and faculty affairs/teaching and learning
• Have at least 3 years of professional experience working in the field of Higher Education/Student Affairs.

The Department of Educational Leadership in the Watson College of
Education is a diverse and dynamic group of educators and scholars

believe are essential to educational leadership.

The Department of Educational Leadership is committed to the preparation,
support and collaboration with educators who seek or hold leadership
positions in schools, school districts, boards, state and federal departments,
agencies or higher education. The Department of Educational Leadership
offers four master’s-level graduate programs (Curriculum Studies in Equity,
Evaluation and Organizational Learning, Higher Education, and School
Administration) and three concentrations within the Ed.D. in Educational
Leadership (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, and
Higher Education), as well an undergraduate minor in Leadership Studies,
and four post-baccalaureate certificates (Coaching and Mentoring, College
Teaching and Learning, Community College Leadership, and Evaluation).

The Watson College of Education ( WCE ) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs, a newly developed laboratory school, and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.
