Purpose of Position

To enhance the aesthetics of the University with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems as well as campus landscapes, pruning, athletic fields, turf-grass areas and other associated projects for the university community on the Highland Heights campus. Performs snow/ice removal duties.

Work schedule including days and hours are subject to change depending on the needs of the university and the Facilities Management Operations & Maintenance Department.

This position is “mission critical”.

Primary Responsibilities

Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems on campus, treat and maintain all the turf grass and water areas on the University.

Examine and scout the turf area and look for IPM methods before chemical options.

Keep accurate records of all herbicide, fungicide and fertilizer applications.

Turf maintenance to include, mowing and trimming.

Snow and ice removal.

Assist with road installation repair and maintenance.

Assist with concrete installation and repair.

Assist in maintaining and installing signage for roads and campus as needed.

Respond to emergency situations as necessary during and after normal work hours.

Assist in maintaining and repairing all Roads & Grounds equipment. Assist the Operations & Maintenance department, the campus and the community with issues related to the outdoor environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma with 2 years related experience. Associate’s Degree preferred with 2 year related experience.

Valid driver’s license required.

KY Pesticide Category 3A applicators license required within 6 months of hire. Applicants already possessing this license will be strongly preferred.

Basic computer skills helpful with ability to read blue prints regarding location of underground utilities for irrigation installations.

Must possess the ability to: perform medium heavy to maximum physical exertion on a regular basis; lift and carry bulky objects weighing 50 lbs or more; work in extreme weather conditions (i.e. heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet, etc.); operate all related equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, tractors, loaders, mowers (both riding and push), seeders, gators, snow plows, chainsaws, pruning tools, all types of hand tools, etc.

Must have reliable transportation and ability to respond and work as needed during snow and other emergencies.

Must have a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and safety awareness.
