Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a term (non-tenure track) position. This nine-month position is at the rank of Assistant Professor. The expected appointment date is August 16, 2021.

The position will anchor a developing undergraduate concentration in our BS program focused on coursework and practical experiences for students aspiring for careers in mental health service provision.

Position Responsibilities

The position will anchor a developing undergraduate concentration in our BS program focused on coursework and practical experiences for students aspiring for careers in mental health service provision. Teaching responsibilities will include five courses per academic year (e.g., two in the fall and three in the spring). One of the courses each semester will be a fieldwork course; this course will involve (a) coordination and assignment of students to supervised placements in community mental health settings in the Richmond area, (b) delivery of didactic material relevant to the field, and © grading of written assignments. The remaining course assignments will be relevant to the concentration (e.g., abnormal psychology, helping relationships).

In addition, the faculty member will be responsible for the development and oversight of the overall field education component for the concentration. In this role, the faculty member will identify and foster partnerships between the Department and the local practice community to create and maintain a variety of placement opportunities for students. The goal is to support about 25 students per semester in placements by Fall 2023. In addition to the above-mentioned teaching activities, the faculty member will participate in service activities equivalent to about 15-20% time.

There is no required research effort for the position.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will be required to have a Ph.D. from an APA -accredited Clinical (or Counseling) Psychology program and be licensed or license-eligible as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Demonstrated experience working in and with a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.

The successful candidate will have undergraduate teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a successful record of teaching and working with diverse students including underrepresented minority students, and other underserved population.

Preference will also be given to those with a background working in or with mental health systems and/or community organizations.
