Provides assistance and expertise in various areas of research such as calibration of instrumentation, equipment maintenance and repair, preparation of samples for testing, monitoring of safety equipment and procedures, development and fabrication of prototype equipment, recording of test results, and basic analyses of data.Ensures experiments are preformed according to specification. Complex Fluids Lab at the University of Houston (UH) is seeking a part -time research Lead Research Tech with mechanical engineering background on the topic of hydrogel formation and rheology with ophthalmic application (cataract surgery). The research staff (with Master’s degree) would synthesize hydrogel in lab with biomimicry focus, perform various rheological tests to measure mechanical properties such as storage and loss modulus, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of formed hydrogels, refractive index adjustment, post-process the data, construct a robotic lens stretcher system for samples of human cadaver eye (from Baylor College of Medicine’s Lions Eye Bank) as well as artificial hydrogels with the goal of monitoring their stretching and unstretching response. The project is a collaboration between the University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine; therefore, the employee would need to continuously interact with both groups.
