About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University seeks a creative and forward-thinking Chief P2P Officer who will lead a unified Procure to Pay (P2P) Organization to include Strategic Procurement, P2P Operations, and Service & Quality Assurance teams and will create a center of service excellence. The individual will oversee an infrastructure that will support the university community to meet its goals in charting a path for continued success and ensuring best-in-class service as a standard.

Responsibilities:
The Chief P2P Officer builds relationships with key university stakeholders to develop, communicate, and maintain university P2P policies and best practice in alignment with the university's mission, vision, strategy and goals. The individual is responsible for assessing new university business opportunities/initiatives globally as it relates to all procure to pay functions and makes recommendations on P2P strategy to senior leadership. The person in this role must have a strong background in managing contemporary procurement and payment systems and as needed, make recommendations on P2P technological solutions to champion continuous improvement.

The Chief P2P Officer provides university-wide leadership and operational oversight of Strategic Procurement and is responsible for developing a global procurement strategy and overseeing functions including supplier information and relationship management, strategic sourcing and negotiations, buying requisitioning, compliance and specialized procurement including but not limited to sponsored research programs. The procurement strategy must comply with all local, state, federal agencies and regulations. The position manages all P2P related relationships with external partners domestically and globally where specific technical compliance or local sourcing expertise is required.

The Chief P2P Officer will also oversee P2P Operations and will focus on vendor payment strategies and increasing efficiency through automation across the entire procure to pay functions within the university's global operation. This area will also include all vendor disbursement and reporting functions including card management and travel and expense.

The position will also oversee Service and Quality Assurance, driving an increasingly more integrated service enterprise designed for efficiency and maximum return on investment. Additionally, the Chief P2P Officer will ensure that the team is responsive to divisional and institutional goals and priorities, anticipating and addressing issues related to the alignment of infrastructure with business objectives or best practices, and proactively recommend and implement solutions. This role requires a high degree of collaboration in a decentralized budget model and must have the skillset to influence change university-wide.

In support of the university's efforts to emphasize, deepen, and enlarge our ongoing efforts to be actively engaged in Boston and in communities surrounding all our campuses, Northeastern has made a commitment to strengthening ties with minority-owned businesses. In this effort, the Chief P2P Officer will ensure that the team increases awareness of minority suppliers and creates opportunities for minority-, women-, veteran-, and LGBTQ-owned businesses.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will bring a background in the following areas: procurement, including supplier diversity initiatives, accounts payable, service delivery, business process automation, cost reduction, and productivity improvement. They will bring sound judgment to the role and the ability to make independent decisions while working collaboratively with colleagues across campus. Additional qualifications include:

  • A minimum of ten years' experience, including management responsibility in procurement/AP operations
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a leader and strategic thinker who thrives when working as a member of a dynamic leadership team
  • The credibility and maturity required to effectively engage colleagues, build trust, and make connections across the university
  • Ability to troubleshoot and make sound decisions in response to rapidly changing often complicated situations
  • Skilled as an outstanding coach, mentor, and motivator of professionals with a dedication to hiring, retaining, and developing talent within an inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving business opportunities and diversity among its vendors by promoting minority-owned business

  • Knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements particular to higher education a plus
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience


    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) preferred
  • Experience in international/global sourcing is a plus
