Position Summary:
Campus Safety officers are responsible for helping ensure the safety and security of Willamette University's students, employees, visitors and property during their assigned shift. They deal with all violations of law and campus policy in an appropriate and equitable manner and positively engage with diverse individuals and groups in support of an inclusive environment.
This position is responsible for responding to situations utilizing a set of well-defined policies, procedures and expectations. Must be able to perform duties with independence. Provides direction and supervision to work-study students but has no formal responsibility for supervision. Public relations are an important part of this position. Requires strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to exchange information with individuals both inside and outside the University. Requires an understanding of a culturally diverse community and the need to interact in a manner that fosters positive relationships in respectful, equitable and inclusive ways.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Actively engages in patrol activities to ensure the security of
the Willamette University campus. Personally inspects areas of
campus to ensure that buildings are secured according to
schedule.
- Renders first aid and takes appropriate action for further
medical assistance as required. Contacts emergency responders as
required.
- Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and
faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as
lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information.
- Assists at University functions to secure peace and safety.
Investigates and documents unsafe conditions, damage to University
property and persons engaging in criminal activities.
- Issues trespass warnings and takes necessary actions with
persons committing crimes or violations of University
policy.
- Investigates vehicle and other accidents occurring on
University property.
- Patrols University parking lots and issues citations for
violations.
- Unlocks secured areas for authorized personnel and assists
persons needing information and directions.
- Prepares reports using a computer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the
required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential
functions of the position. High School diploma or GED is
required.
- Minimum of two years experience in a security position (or two
years college level law enforcement or criminal
justice courses) required. - Valid Oregon Driver's license, clean driving record and ability
to be insured.
- Must meet minimum criteria for certification by the Board on
Public Safety Standards and Training, which
requires candidates be 21 years of age, high school diploma or GED, and free from any felony criminal
convictions.
All University positions require that candidates submit to a criminal conviction record check prior to hire. Conviction does not automatically preclude candidates from being hired. Nature of conviction will be considered relative to the duties of the position.
