Job Summary
The Occupational Safety Manager develops, implements, and maintains programs to enhance employee safety; builds a safety culture and reduces institutional compliance risks; leads occupational safety efforts for Georgia Southern University community; oversees safety measures and policies to ensure safe conditions in University work environment to prevent harm, injury, or illness; collaborates with faculty and staff to set institutional directions regarding occupational safety program management.

  • Performs related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Oversees design of programs for injury prevention
  • Identifies chemical, physical, radiation and biological hazards in workplace
  • Performs and coordinates industrial hygiene activities
  • Investigates accidents to identify cause in order to develop and implement preventive measures
  • Analyzes work environments and procedures for adherence to regulations on safety, health, and environment
  • Provides oversight in design of programs for injury prevention
  • Recommends measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions
  • Serves as the Right-To-Know Coordinator
  • Manages general and laboratory safety and provides safety training

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience
  • Three (3) years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety or related field

Preferred Experience
  • Five (5) years of related work experience
  • Work experience in higher education
  • Proven supervisory experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Related Certifications: CIH and/or CSP

Proposed Salary
$50,000 - $59,000

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant regulations governing occupational safety
  • Understanding of procedures and willingness to follow University policies to meet institutional goals
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and human relation skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Experience in analyzing workplaces and designing proactive safety approaches and initiatives needed
  • Experience inspecting workplaces for compliance with both state and federal laws
