Summary:

Fisk University invites applications for the position of Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The University seeks an innovative leader who advocates and promotes cutting-edge research and one who embraces cutting-edge educational pedagogy. As Chief Academic Officer the holder of this position is involved in the development of academic policy and educational objectives. The candidate is also an advocate of the faculty and plays a major role in hiring and evaluating faculty.

Units reporting to the Provost include the: Schools of Arts & Science, Professional Studies, and Life Sciences; SACS Reaffirmation; Institutional Research; University Libraries; Office of Sponsored Programs; the Registrar; Academic Computing; and the John Lewis Center for Social Justice.

Fisk University

Fisk University was founded in 1866 and is the oldest institution of higher education in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1930 the University became the first HBCU in the nation to gain accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Over its history the University has played a major role in securing the future for African-Americans. Influential graduates include among others W.E.B. Du Bois, Judith Jamison, John Hope Franklin, David Levering Lewis, John Lewis, Diane Nash, Nikki Giovanni, and Kim Whitley.

Education and Experience

Earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline currently offered by the University (or a closely related field); strong academic background with prior experience as an Associate Provost, Dean or other senior academic administrator; proven leadership skills, must have the ability to create a shared vision through a collective process. Must possess a high level of personal integrity, proven proficiency in long-range planning, budget management, and performance review. Must also have a strong background with prior experience in working with and addressing accreditation standards put forth by the Southern Association of Colleges and schools. Prior experience in using EAB Student support module and Ad Astra are important aspects of the hiring process.
