Fisk University seeks a Contract Business Development Officer. The candidate selected for this position is expected to generate and develop new sources of revenue for the University. They will manage contract accounts and come up with new sales ideas. This includes new sales strategies; service inquires and business plans. Ensure all clients experience responsive, efficient, and positive service at all times by keeping to agreed timescales, setting realistic client expectations, and ensuring proper communication with potential and existing clients.

The position reports to the Director of Sponsored programs and is an integral part of the unit. Listed below are specific expectations of the position:


Expected duties

  • Identify new market opportunities via market research and initiate contact
  • Create proposals for existing clients to improve their business utilizing company services
  • Generate a minimum of $750,000 of contracts annually
  • Generate sales presentations
  • Maintain positive growth in your market area
  • Respond to all issues with prompt attention
  • Travel to destinations to best facilitate transactions or training

Qualifications for Business Development Officer

  • Baccalaureate Degree (with a master’s preferred)
  • 5+ years experience working in a development role
  • 2+ years in a leadership role
  • Capability of prioritizing and delegating responsibilities
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel to see clients, explore new markets and attend conventions
  • A familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
