The Department of Criminal Justice at Radford University invites applications for a full-time position in courts and law beginning in August 2021. The position will be hired at the rank of special purpose instructor. The Department of Criminal Justice has more than 500 undergraduate majors, minors in crime analysis, conservation law enforcement, and forensic studies, and a graduate program, including an online certificate program in crime analysis. Our faculty’s areas of expertise and research interest include a broad range of criminal justice topics including, but not limited to, juvenile justice, wrongful convictions, emergency management, and crime analysis. The position requires teaching four undergraduate classes each semester with students from all class levels. Courses required to teach include Constitutional law and prelaw courses and required courses for the criminal justice major (i.e., introduction to criminal justice, police and society, courts and criminal process, corrections, diversity issues in criminal justice, crime and criminal behavior, and/or research methods in criminal justice). Our faculty engage in professional development and service to the Department, College, University and broader community. Departmental service includes academic advising and departmental committees.

 

All candidates with teaching interest in law, a postgraduate degree, and at least 18 hours of graduate credit in criminology or criminal justice will be considered, but a PhD or juris doctorate degree is preferred. All candidates, including those with a J.D., will be required to show significant evidence of successful teaching at the university level. Successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and utilizing innovative teaching strategies. Additionally, the position requires a person with relevant professional experiences and engagement. Candidates must show a history of relevant career experiences and professional engagement. Our faculty engage in professional development and service to the University and broader community. Professional activities including consultation, presentations, research and writing for the academic or professional community are expected. Filling of this position is subject to budgetary approval.
