This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Science (OS) in
Beltsville, Maryland.
- Evaluates toxicity data relating to the degree of hazard associated with contaminants and natural toxicants present in Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulated products.
- Reviews the submission of tobacco applications to ensure the toxicology reviews meet the regulatory compliance outlined in Center for Tobacco Products.
- Provides information on the use of experimental findings in relation to development of the Administrations guidelines and enforcement programs relating to contaminants and natural toxicants and chemicals found in regulated products.
- Contributes to review of a range of documents and/or studies concerned with exposure and health determinations of product reports/applications to determine adequacy of the results.
Basic Requirements Have a degree in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

For further consideration for the Toxicologist, GS-0415-11/12, in addition to the basic education requirement listed above, you must meet the following minimum qualification requirement(s): Minimum Qualifications
Specialized Experience. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
GS-11: Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 in the Federal Service or public, which includes assisting with conducting research, reviewing and interpreting toxicological studies, data, applications, and/or reports of products, such as chemicals, drugs, or tobacco.
OR
I have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree in related field or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in related field.
OR
I have a combination of specialized experience as described in above and higher graduate level education as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement.
GS-12: Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the in the Federal Service or public which includes conducting research, reviewing and interpreting toxicological studies, data, applications, and/or reports of products, such as chemicals, drugs, or tobacco and assisting with developing or recommending methods to assess the toxicity of these products.
