Job Summary: This position will have responsibility for planning, implementing, assessing and ensuring compliance of programs that support students’ use of assisted academic technologies for current enrollment in career programs and towards future employment. This position has knowledge of WCAG 2.0, ADAA law and sections 504/508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

This position will be open until filled.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree in computer science, technology, academic technologies, special education, social work, developmental education, or related field is required and minimum 2 years of experience in higher education and experience with students with disabilities is required.

Licensing Requirements: Assistive Technology certification desired.

Hiring Range: $46,329-$57,911

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with accessibility software such as JAWS, NVDA, accessibility checkers, captioning software.

Experience working with people with disabilities

Job Specific Task List:
  • 1. Research, develop, and implement assistive technology support for students with disabilities college-wide and how it pertains to employment. - (Essential)
  • 2. Recommend, install and provide training in assistive technology; provide support for assistive technologies to include support for both on-campus and online courses and can involve use of technology such as Skype or Zoom to interact and support students. - (Essential)
  • 3. Develop web-based training for students to learn how to use popular assistive technology such as Read and Write Gold, etc; provide one to one training of career and technology education (CTE) students in assistive technology, including current and future technology such as screen readers (i.e. Read and Write Gold, Kurzweil), use of tools like Smart Pens, as well as apps, for face to face and online courses. - (Essential)
  • 4. Provide technical assistance and training to faculty and staff on how to make accessible materials; develop a culture of technological training, stressing the importance of accessible course materials and support for CTE students in the classroom and for use in pursuit of their career employment goals. - (Essential)
  • 5. Monitor and track student use of assistive technology and any issues that arise in order to make recommendations for future technology purchases to prepare students for employment. - (Essential)
  • 6. Assess validity of product and third- party publisher VPATs. - (Essential)
  • 7. Advocate on the behalf of students to resolve issues with third party publisher supplemental sites such as Mymathlab, etc. - (Essential)
  • 8. Build effective relationships with relevant stakeholders, including academic program directors, academic technologies and learning commons staff related to the engagement and success of students with disabilities and accommodative needs within career programs and employment. - (Essential)
  • 9. Speak publicly and makes presentations to various stakeholders including but not limited to CareerLink offices, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Workforce Investment Boards, public school districts and intermediate units. - (Essential)
  • 10. Travel regularly to the other College campuses. - (Essential)
  • 11. Understand cultural differences and promote collegiality in all college settings. - (Essential)
  • 12. Complete and submit Perkins Time and Effort sheets bi-weekly. - (Essential)
