Legal Skills Professor (70657)

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA LEVIN COLLEGE OF LAW seeks to hire a Legal Skills Professor to teach required first-year and second-year legal writing courses. The University of Florida, located in Gainesville, FL, is currently the sixth best public research institution in the nation and the flagship university of the third largest state. The Levin College of Law is ranked seventh among public law schools and 24th among all law schools.

The College of Law seeks to fill this nine-month Legal Skills Professor position in the spring of 2021, with teaching to begin in August 2021. The ideal candidate will be able to teach both semesters of our first-year writing curriculum, as needed, and work as part of a team to continuously update and refine our first-year writing courses. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to teach our required second-year legal drafting course, as needed, including sections designed to reinforce legal analysis and writing skills for students needing additional support after their first year of law school.

Legal Skills Professors are non-tenured faculty members who participate in College of Law governance and committee work. After three years of successful teaching and service, Legal Skills Professors are eligible for five-year, presumptively renewable contacts. Legal Skills Professors do not have scholarship responsibilities, but they are encouraged to participate in the scholarly life of the College of Law. Legal skills professors hold the rank of Lecturer at the University level. In addition to salary and benefits, all Legal Skills Professors are provided with professional development funds.

Successful applicants will demonstrate strong writing and legal skills, potential for excellence in teaching and service, a willingness to work as part of a team to strengthen our courses, and a commitment to creating inclusive environments for students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience helping students develop better legal reasoning and exam writing skills, including the skills necessary for writing successful bar exam essays.

Candidates must have JD, or equivalent degrees in related fields and have demonstrated excellence in teaching and commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all students.
