Kenan-Flagler Business School, located at The University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, is a top 20 ranked professional business
school offering a range of professional and academic degree
programs, Beyond its degree programs, Kenan-Flagler also directs
and maintains the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private
Enterprise, which is the outreach and research arm of the School,
and the Executive Development Program, which houses its
nationally-ranked executive education programs. Kenan-Flagler
Business School enrolls over 2,500 students annually in its
programs and lives/operates by its core values of excellence,
leadership, integrity, inclusion, community and teamwork.
The Senior Associate Dean for Business and Operations is responsible for planning, directing and delivering the full range of financial and administrative services for the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and its various programs, including finance, human resources, IT and facilities. The individual in this role works closely with senior administrators and program directors to ensure maximum effective use of all financial resources to support the School’s teaching, research, and public service goals and objectives. The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for developing and approving the School’s operating budget; making ongoing financial forecasts; overseeing all accounting and auditing functions; and advising senior administrators and program directors on effective fiscal management for current and expanding programs. This individual serves as the treasurer to the KFBS Foundation and its associated entities. In addition to the foundation this includes the KFBS Executive Education LLC, KFBSF Inc., and 6 student run investment limited partnerships The Senior Associate Dean also serves as the chief administrative officer for the School and in this role is responsible for overseeing the School’s human resources function, facilities management, Information Technology, as well as security and scheduling for the McColl Building, the Kenan Center, and the Rizzo Conference Center. This individual with serve in a key role overseeing the planning for a new building and renovation of current space, as well as any additional physical space expansion needed to meet the mission of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. The Senior Associate Dean communicates frequently with the Dean, senior administrators, faculty and staff, as well as key University administrators and their offices, including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Provost, and Controller, and also deans, faculty and staff of other UNC schools and other peer business schools. This individual also has frequent and discretionary external communications with attorneys, bankers, auditors, vendors, donors, etc. The Senior Associate Dean reports to the Dean and is a member of the Executive Committee of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Educational
Requirements
Master’s degree is
required, with preference for an MBA or other relevant discipline
with strong emphasis on financial analysis and accounting. All
degrees must be from accredited institutions.
Qualifications and
Experience
The successful candidate
will possess 10 or more years of progressively responsible
financial management experience in a business or higher education
setting. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the concepts,
principles and practices of budget development and financial
forecasting is required. The successful candidate will be able to
analyze and solve complex financial issues and translate those
solutions to others in the organization. Excellent interpersonal
communications skills are required, as well as the ability to
collaborate with School leadership and colleagues across campus and
at peer business schools. As steward of the School’s financial
resources, he/she must hold integrity and transparency in the
highest regard. Demonstrated commitment to creating a diverse and
inclusive working and learning environment is required. The
successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized and
efficient. Strong leadership skills and high emotional intelligence
(EQ) are essential for success in the position. Preference for
prior university or state government experience.
