The Artist in Residence will teach a variety of courses such as Acting, Theatre for Children, A Survey of African American Theatre, and other courses depending on the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the College. The successful candidate will also direct a mainstage or studio production as part of the Carthage Theatre season. The Theatre of Inclusion program is part of the College’s commitment to anti-racism and diversity, equity and inclusion on the campus. This program aims to support students of color in theatre, as well as creating a bridge connecting students from underrepresented groups both in the department and across the campus. The Theatre of Inclusion program also aims to increase representation in producing work by playwrights of color and other underrepresented groups. Review of applications will begin immediately. For best consideration please submit materials on or before March 15, 2021.

A master’s degree is required; MFA or Ph.D. preferred. Interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter detailing their qualifications and experiences with diverse students, as well as the names and contact information for three references, to Theatre Department Chair Herschel Kruger at hkruger@carthage.edu.

Founded in 1847, Carthage combines an environment of reflection and self-discovery with a culture of high expectation, so that our students uncover and ignite their true potential. As a four-year private liberal arts college with roots in the Lutheran tradition, we place a strong emphasis on both moral and intellectual values. Our prime location in Kenosha, Wisconsin, midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, allows students the opportunity to learn in a professional context. Our beautiful campus, an 80-acre arboretum on the shore of Lake Michigan, is home to 155 full-time faculty, 2,600 full-time students, and 400 part-time students. Our rich academic experience equips students with foundational knowledge and skills, preparing graduates to be lifelong learners, and to lead meaningful, productive lives.

Carthage College values the diversity of its campus community and encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups.
