Lecturer in Political Science

The Political Science Department at Gonzaga University in Spokane WA, invites applications for a one-year, fixed term, non-tenure-track faculty position for the academic year 2021-2022 in the field of American politics. Candidates should be committed to pursuing excellence in teaching and promoting an inclusive learning environment.  The teaching load is 4 courses per semester and the successful candidate will teach 2-3 sections per semester of Introduction to American Politics as well as 1-2 upper divisions courses related to their research specialization.  We are especially interested in candidates who explore issues relevant to traditionally marginalized communities such as immigrants, refugees, or racial and sexual minorities in their teaching. The ability to teach courses on the Presidency and/or Congress is a plus.  Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Political Science. ABDs considered, with the expectation that degree is in hand by August 1, 2021.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience using classroom strategies and pedagogies to advance equity and inclusion.

Job Duties:

• Teach four courses per semester, including Introduction to American Politics (POLS 101), courses required for the POLS major and minor, and electives in the candidate’s areas of expertise.
• Support the department, university, and discipline through service and other forms of academic citizenship.
