Position Summary:

CIMER provides research mentor and mentee training to institutions across the country to improve research mentoring in higher education. The Program and Events Assistant will be responsible for supporting the mission of the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) at UW-Madison. Under the Assistant Director's supervision, this position will be responsible for overall project coordination and administration of multiple projects within CIMER, including training and events programs, and coordinating financial, grant, and database management.

The individual hired for this entry-level position will be adept at providing creative solutions, working independently, and developing systems that allow CIMER to implement projects successfully. A love of detail, organization, and process is a must- the best fit candidate will insist on process and organization. This position is based primarily on fee-for-service work, which creates an exciting and fast-paced atmosphere, much like a start-up. The ability to work quickly, react to changes, and have a comfort level with evolving processes is key.

Candidates should be interested in working in an environment with a strong sense of teamwork. Each individual at CIMER contributes meaningful work where ideas are welcome, and candidates should be comfortable sharing ideas in a non-hierarchical structure.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BA/BS in social science, science, business, or other relevant field

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required:
* 0-2 years of project management or administrative experience
* Excellent administration skills, including attention to detail and ability to problem-solve
* Outstanding oral and written communication skills
* Ability to coordinate complex meeting and event schedules
* Proficiency with Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Forms) and/or Microsoft Office products

Preferred experience:
* Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, take initiative, work independently, and self-start.
* Demonstrated Commitment to promoting equity diversity and inclusion in all aspects of work
* Experience working effectively with a broad stakeholder group including co-workers, faculty, institutional leaders and clients
* Demonstrated history of collaboration involving effective communication and problem solving with colleagues and supervisors.
* High level of comfort learning new software quickly; including databases, project management tools, online learning platforms
* Prior experience with project management software, customer relational database, cloud-based file storage and online learning platforms a plus
* Prior experience with general administrative duties and financial reporting a plus
* Demonstrated understanding of mentorship in higher education
