The Department of Medicine, Division of Addiction Medicine isseeking aResearch Assistantto screen, recruit patients, and determine patient eligibility for participation in study. Will collect and interpret study data in an organized and precise fashion to maintain data integrity. Disburse and track funds to study participants on a timely basis. Provide comprehensive study support and contributes to successful project execution.Responsible for protocol initiation, procedural adherence, and compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Screens, recruits patients, and determines patient
eligibility for participation in study via patient histories, test
results, medical exams, etc.
- Willingly acts as a resource person to other medical staff regarding study protocol and interpretation.

Recruit, screen (for study
eligibility), and enroll participants.
Conduct screening and
follow-up visits
Conduct the informed consent
process, collect participant locator information, and, as
appropriate, obtain authorization for release of
information.
Perform randomization
procedure for participants in eClinical.
Schedule study participants
for follow-up assessments.
Collect, test, and ship (as
applicable) blood samples
Perform urine collection and
testing activities.
Prepare and ship genetics
samples as described in the MOP and other applicable instructions.
Manage compensation tasks such as ordering and maintaining supply
of gift cards or cash, ensuring accuracy of compensation, and
distributing participant compensation.
Conduct follow-up activities
(phone calls, mailings, and in-person reminders) to ensure that
participants return for follow-up visits.
Enter data directly into EDC
system and from paper source documents.
Respond to all data
queries
Provide back-up to other
study personnel as required and appropriate.
Perform general study
administrative tasks, as needed.
Conduct interviews and guide
participant self-administered assessments.
Maintain current and
accurate study records.
Complete regular inventory
of study medication and supplies and report information to the
CCC.
Assist with medical records
abstraction
Attend and participate in
study conference calls, as required.
Establish rapport and track
participants for all study visits.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and some related work experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:Experience with substance abuse.
SKILL, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITY (SKA):
- Requires interaction with a diverse population and interest in working with an older population regarding memory and other illnesses. Perform blood draws and processing.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic computer applications.
- Experience with Redcap data entry a plus. Knowledge of research design, protocols, and analysis; knowledge of regulatory aspects of clinical research.
- Ability to work independently, be self-directed and motivated. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
- Skilled in problem solving and keeping detailed records and files.
- Displays high standards of attendance, punctuality, maintains confidentiality, and manages time effectively.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
