GENERAL INFORMATION: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. With campuses in Chester and Midlothian in the metropolitan Richmond area and at off-campus classrooms throughout the area, John Tyler Community College provides quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. RESPONSIBILITIES: The dean of business, engineering and technology provides sound operational management and strong academic administrative leadership for a designated selection of disciplines including but not limited to: accounting, business, and economics; engineering; skilled trades; information technology and computer science; legal administration; and criminal justice. This is a full-time twelve-month administrative faculty position.

 

The dean supervises and supports all faculty and staff assigned to the division and creates an environment that encourages innovative strategies for curriculum development and delivery, as well as the assessment of programs and learning outcomes. The dean assumes a college-wide leadership role and works to promote and maintain excellence in teaching and learning across multiple campuses and online. In coordination with the faculty, the dean develops, schedules, and supervises the instructional programs in the division; allocates resources; manages faculty recruitment; promotes professional development; and works collaboratively with others and with institutional data in the college and the community to ensure continuous improvement of programs in accord with the College’s vision, mission, and strategic goals. The dean reports directly to the Vice President of Learning and Student Success.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: A master’s degree, teaching experience, and administrative experience are required. A competitive candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge for developing community college curricula, working with community partners, and assessing outcomes; a collaborative leadership and management style; experience supervising others; proficiency with personnel and budget management; and knowledge of accreditation. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required. Preferred: A doctorate and administrative experience in a higher education setting are preferred.
