General Summary/Purpose

The department ofAnesthesiology Research is seeking a Research Program Coordinator who canCoordinate clinical and simulation-based research and academic projects that are related to cardiopulmonary resuscitation and work in the ICU. He/sheorganizes and implements data collection procedures and has active role in data collection. Current research projects include a multi-centered trial “CPR Coach Project”, a project related to developing a “Resuscitation Smart Board” in the ICU, assessment of the “Bouncing CPR” technique, the “POCCA” trial and the Roger’s project.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the PI of these projects, Dr. Elizabeth Hunt.
  • Manages the preparation and submission of research proposals to the institutional review board (IRB) locally, renewal of applications locally and tracking of other sites progress with their IRB applications for multicenter projects.
  • Coordinates adverse event reporting with clinicians and investigators to insure prompt reporting to JHMIRBs and study sponsors.
  • Organizes virtual courses, workshops, focus groups and bootcamps and provides support to the Leader throughout, including sending and responding to emails from participants, managing registration, creating and distributing ZOOM link, having slides and video clips ready for course, facilitate use of slides and video clips during sessions, monitoring chat, sending follow up assessments, organizing and presenting results.
  • Organizes in-person courses, workshops and bootcamps and provides support to the Leader throughout, including sending and responding to emails from participants, booking hotel rooms, arranging meals and social events, managing registration, creating notebooks with course materials, booking rooms and Simulation Center, having slides and video clips ready for course, facilitate use of slides and video clips during sessions, doing financial reimbursements for Leader and participants, sending follow up assessments, organizing and presenting results.
  • Organizes simulation-based research sessions and or video shoots, including ordering and or setting up equipment/supplies, engaging Simulation staff, participating as an embedded actor as needed, directing simple simulation videos independently and facilitates complex video shoots after trained to do so.
  • Consents subjects to be enrolled in studies, after being trained to do so.
  • Conducts research related literature reviews.
  • Conducts interviews and/or Focus Groups, in person, on telephone or via ZOOM or other remote platform, after being given questionnaires and being trained to do so.
  • Serve as a point of contact and coordinator for study investigators, team members, and participants regarding study details (status, scheduling, etc.)
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned protocols, maintains regulatory documentation for each assigned initiative on a shared drive for research group access.
  • Independently manages discrete projects within the broader Research Projects and updates Leader, e.g., create systems for research sites to report cardiac arrest events, to report completion of data upload, to collect and report new data elements, etc…
  • Reviews research budgets with PI monthly and then with Grant Managers, follows through on any action items generated during meetings.
  • Drafts annual Reports to funding agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Schedule and participate in study meetings, write and disseminate meeting minutes in a timely manner and maintain on a shared drive for research group access.
  • Provide updates on protocol implementation status, data accuracy and overall progress and provide recommendations on improvements to any operational issues discovered.
  • Leads monthly research/simulation-based journal club – including management of choosing presenter, choosing research article, sending ZOOM links (for virtual) or booking room (for in person) and sending invitations to participants.
  • Attends conferences virtually or in person when travel allowed and manages logistics related to research meetings (e.g. sending invitations, booking meeting rooms, booking food, managing reimbursement for participants, etc…)
  • Maintain work-related training and certification as required by JHU.
  • Utilizes online tools for project management, schedules, training sessions, classes, workshops, and other activities.
  • Participate in technical training as necessary.
  • Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and other users of the Simulation Center.
  • As necessary,provides information to faculty, staff, students and visitors concerning the functions of the simulation center.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a health-related field
  • Some related experience.
  • Additional experience may substitute for some education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula:
* JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

  • Good organizational skills required.
  • Some knowledge of hospital-based patient care (e.g. health care roles, clinical departments, and allied health services) helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Good problem-solving skills to work with various faculty members and students from different program levels.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, display diplomacy and coordinate/run multiple tasks and projects concurrently with frequent interruptions.
  • Functions independently, moving projects along timeline with little oversight, asks questions when needing assistance, troubleshoots small problems and asks for guidance for larger problems, providing frequent brief updates to PI asks for longer meetings when needed.
  • Receptive to feedback on performance in order to be able to continually grow in position and speaks up about what is needed, if anything, to be more successful in position.
  • Good computer skills and interest in gaining new skills required.
  • Strong customer service skills are essential, and applicants must enjoy working with people.
  • Positive attitude with desire to be grow and be part of a dynamic team.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Dr. Hunt leads Resuscitation programs for Johns Hopkins and strives to be a leader in teaching the importance of emergency readiness. In order to lead by example, we require this individual take the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (i.e., CPR) class and maintain certification by taking the class every 2 years (or the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program). This individual is not required to have this certification at time of hire but will be expected to work towards certification once hired.
