The Department of Communication at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for full-time, renewable-contract lecturer position in journalism and public relations beginning August 2021.

The ideal candidate will have a 4/4 teaching load and teach courses in newswriting and public relations. The lecturer is also expected to engage in professional service to the department, the university and the community.

The Department of Communication offers a bachelor’s degree that prepares graduates for the rapidly changing media and communication worlds of the 21st-century. The department is one of only 117 departments worldwide that is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Accreditation means that our students receive a solid foundation in the liberal arts and sciences, as well as training in the skills and knowledge required for success in a wide variety of professions. Students are also given a foundation for success in an ethnically and culturally diverse world.

Our graduates work in a variety of professions including public relations; social media marketing; print, broadcast and electronic journalism; advertising; broadcast production; web editing and design; and multi-media production and presentation. The communication degree at UTC also provides a solid foundation for further study in graduate or professional schools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication or a related field
  • Five years of experience in newswriting and/or public relations
  • One year of teaching at the collegiate level


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Communication and/or related field
  • Five or more years of experience in newswriting/public relations
  • Three or more years of teaching at the collegiate level
