The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of French beginning fall 2021. Completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire. Candidates should have a record of excellence in teaching in French language at all levels and in literature. Normal teaching load is 5 courses per year. Although the field of specialization is open, preference will be given to candidates whose research focus would extend the department’s current coverage; pre-1700 literature and/or theater would therefore be especially welcome. The successful candidate will be expected to teach language classes at all levels, as well as survey courses and undergraduate seminars in literature. Participation in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum, may also be expected. Letter of application, vita, three letters of recommendation, and a teaching statement must be submitted through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/18158 . Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. All applications should speak directly to the candidate’s ability to work effectively with students across a wide range of identities and backgrounds. Review of applications will begin on March 15, 2021, and continue until the position is filled. Interviews of selected candidates will be held via video conferencing later in March or April. Applicants with dual-career considerations can find postings of other employment opportunities at Colgate and at other institutions of higher education in upstate New York at https://upstate-ny.hercjobs.org/ .
