Position Summary

The Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse is searching for a nine-month, tenure track position in the area of Exercise Science. The university values diversity and encourages applications from all candidates. The position is at the Assistant Professor rank and will begin August 30th, 2021.

Our new colleague will teach courses in the graduate athletic training program as well as an area of undergraduate exercise science. This person will teach in the athletic training program in the potential areas of rehabilitation and reconditioning, prevention, organization and administration, and professional responsibility, as well as an area of exercise science (human motor behavior, exercise physiology, etc.) depending on expertise. There is an expectation for this individual to engage in scholarship and supervise student projects and theses. Service and academic advising will also be assigned each semester.

General position summary statement for UWL faculty positions:
Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and advising students. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. The individual is expected to maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship appropriate to the discipline. In addition, this individual will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.

Required Qualifications

Candidates for the appointment should have or be near to completing a doctorate degree in Exercise Science or a related field by the start date. Degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2022. ABD candidates will be considered but must discuss their progress toward degree completion and their expected graduation date in their application cover letter. Candidates must hold a BOC credential and be WI licensure eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience teaching didactic content in a CAATE accredited program including the 2020 Educational Standards
• Experience as an athletic training preceptor
• Experience as a practicing athletic trainer in a clinical setting (high school, college/university, industrial, military, etc.)
• Additional areas of expertise in teaching exercise science
