Join the Montana State University-Northern (MSUN) Graduate Program as a faculty member and teach counselor education courses in our Master of Education, Counselor Education Program. The Counselor Education Program supports the mission of Montana State University Northern to provide quality undergraduate and graduate programs. These programs are designed to meet the needs of rural, underserved, and culturally diverse populations. The department supports alternative and blended delivery of the program (residential, off-campus, and online) to reach stakeholders and strengthen collaborative community partnerships for school, community, and other counseling related professions. The Counselor Education faculty maintain the highest degree of preparation and employ best pedagogic strategies and clinical practices. Located in Havre, Montana, Montana State University-Northern is north central Montana's comprehensive university offering programs and services at the associate, baccalaureate, and master's levels.

The Havre area offers great access to outdoor activities: with mountains, lakes, rivers, and prairies add to the variety. Havre is the Hill County Seat and offers a hospital, a fun downtown, an active community theater, as well as county offices. Havre has many pretty city parks and neighborhoods. Beyond Havre there are smaller, more rural communities with ranches and farms.

Position Description

Reporting to the college dean, the Counselor Education faculty position emphasizes teaching excellence and requires eligibility for licensure in the State of Montana. Beyond teaching, the position involves collaborating with faculty and departments across the university campus, and establishing practicum and internship sites (e.g., school districts, regional cooperative education services, and behavioral health providers). The successful candidate will teach and supervise counselor education students in a regional and state accredited graduate program. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (or ABD) in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program.
    • Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a professional counselor in the State of Montana.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of potential leadership, strategic planning, and intercultural skills.
    • Experience in program development using in-person, online, and/or hybrid delivery.
    • Evidence of successful teaching and communication skills in counselor education.
    • Experience as a supervisor for practicums and internships.
    • Experience in preparing for CACREP accreditation.
    • Professional identity as a school counselor.
    • Contract position as a professional school counselor in elementary, middle, high school or K-12 school.
    • Experience with ASCA National Model for developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive school counseling programs.
