Job Summary

Position: Clinical Assistant Professor of Bands

Non tenure track, 10 month appointment. Initial appointment is 3 years.

Duties: Clinical Assistant Professor of Bands will have shared responsibilities for coordination of instruction in the Concert Band area, which is part of Purdue Bands and Orchestras in the College of Liberal Arts. This includes:

  • Planning concert band/chamber music programs, selecting appropriate repertoire, coaching various small ensembles, directing concert bands and departmental/university required record keeping.
  • Serve as primary conductor for up to three of the seven concert bands and assist with the Purdue Wind Ensemble.
  • Assist in coordination of concert band concerts and performances.
  • Assist the Director of Operations with the coordination of auditions for concert bands, marching band and orchestra winds.
  • Additionally the candidate will teach one section of a course in the division of Design, Art and Performance.
  • Play a significant role in student recruitment and alumni outreach in cooperation with departmental public relations director.
  • Additional departmental duties may be assigned by the Director of Bands as deemed necessary.

Qualifications: Candidates for the position will possess solid concert band conducting background, with teaching experience in the area of instrumental music. Minimum requirement is a Master's Degree with at least one degree in music education.  .  Degree must be completed at time of appointment.  Knowledge and background of concert band and chamber music pedagogy is critical.  Solid performance ability on a wind or percussion instrument as well as evidence of strong organizational skills is expected
