The Financial Aid Specialist provides financial aid information and counseling assistance to students and parents on federal, state and institutional financial aid programs; and processes financial aid applications, including verification and awarding financial aid to eligible students.

This is accomplished by remaining current on constantly-changing Title IV regulations, state and institutional policies and procedures performing verification in compliance with statutory requirements; performing various complex technical duties to determine financial need and award in accordance with federal and state law and institutional policy; educating students, parents and community members about financial aid; and communicating scholarship information.

Specific duties may include work with outside private and some state scholarships; processing professional judgements as part of a committee; financial literacy including default management; collaborating with other departments; and assisting with coordination of special events.

A bachelor’s degree and one to three years experience working in financial aid or a directly related field is required, including verification processing, default management, financial literacy, and scholarship processing and over award review.

Preferred qualifications include experience with NASFAA credentialing, Banner, Argos, MD CAPS, and FAA Access.
