Position Summary:
Arkansas State University (A-State) is recruiting applicants for
the position of Assistant Professor of Vocal Music
Education/Associate Director of Choral Activities
A-State seeks a visionary musician and educator who will join a
music department recognized throughout the region for artistic
excellence and student success
The Assistant Professor of Vocal Music Education/Associate Director
of Choral Activities is expected to be an outstanding leader, music
educator, and conductor for undergraduate and graduate level music
students as well as be a visible resource to the choral education
community in the Mid-South and beyond
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Assistant Professor of Vocal Music Education/Associate Director of Choral Activities will
- Teach courses in undergraduate and graduate music education
- Assist the Director of Choral Activities including conducting at least one choir a semester
- Supervise music education majors during their student internship in the elementary and secondary schools
- This person will also be responsible for recruiting and retaining students to the A-State choral program and for the Bachelor of Vocal Music Education degree as well as sharing in advisement duties of vocal music education majors
- The applicant will pursue an active performance/creative/scholarly agenda and participate fully in the responsibilities of faculty membership (student advisement, curriculum development, service activities)
- Additional duties may be assigned based on the strengths of the selected applicant and needs of the department

The Assistant Professor Vocal Music Education/ Associate Director
of Choral Activities will be expected to have regular and reliable
attendance Monday-Friday during the school day (8am-5pm) to teach
courses, hold office hours, and participate fully in departmental,
collegiate, and university activities. Additional hours outside of
the school day are expected as needed for items that include but
are not limited to concerts, recruiting, and outreach

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Music or related field (Doctorate is
preferred). Secondary and/or elementary school teaching experience
is required (Collegiate/University level teaching preferred).
Special consideration will be given to candidates who have
experience working collaboratively with secondary school choir
programs and demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups
associated with a major university choral program including
students, faculty, university administration, alumni, and community
members. Evidence of ongoing creative, performing, or research
activities is also required.
