General Summary/Purpose:

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing is seeking a Research Data Analyst. The Research Data Analyst will contribute to research related to the design, execution, and reporting of rigorous research studies. The Research Data Analyst will be based on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana and work under the supervision of the project PI and the On-site Supervisor, who will provide assignments and training, and will communicate regularly concerning project status.

The main focus of this position will be evaluation and assessment of the 12-component intergenerational curriculum with pre-Head Start Native American (NA) children (age 3-5 years old) and their parents. This program is based on the “Little Holy One” research project which was designed by Dr. Teresa Brockie, and her co-researchers for the families of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux tribal communities located in Montana.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The Conduct and facilitate required evaluation measures at required times per research protocol with each participant enrolled in the Little Holy One study
  • Build rapport with participants while collecting data on sensitive information, including mental health symptoms, substance use, and adverse childhood experiences
  • Explain study objectives, risks, and benefits with potential participants to recruit participants
  • Verify each participant has informed consent properly filled out
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality during participant data collection, must be willing to sign confidentiality agreement
  • Coordinates implementation of evaluation studies via site visits, conference calls and email communications with clients and participants under the direction of the PI and On-Site Supervisor
  • Prepare instruments such as surveys, interview protocols, and observation guides for collecting evaluation data from projects sites for review by senior staff
  • Assists PI with development, testing and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires and coding structures to ensure accurate and efficient collection of data
  • Participate in conference calls or site visits for planning purposes; coordinate data collection activities through calls and emails with school/districts
  • Code, analyze, and prepare data obtained from surveys, observations, interviews, and caregiver/student achievement measures
  • Conduct interviews by phone or in person; conduct onsite observations; administer surveys
  • Generate reports, charts, and tables for stakeholders and sponsors
  • Primary responsibility for data collection, entry, management, and reporting for research project
  • Serve as a resource for staff on data collection and interpretation issues
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline required.
  • Three (3) Years of related experience required.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Native American populations
  • Experience working in rural and remote reservation settings
  • Must have at least two years’ experience with the Nakoda or Dakota Culture and Language (proficiency not required)

Other:

  • Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required.
  • This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.
  • Ability to travel as needed, including overnight trips for extended days

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the community geography, ability to locate participant homes and navigate rural roads effectively and safely
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); developing and working with spreadsheets/databases
  • Data collection and analytical skills with programs such as REDCap and STATA

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
