E-Learning Development Specialist

General Summary/Purpose:
The E-Learning Development Specialist helps enhance the digital classroom experience at Carey through the creation of interactive and engaging learning assets such as; branching scenario simulations, interactive video, interactive graphics, quizzes, interactive 360 video. In this Multimedia team role you will work independently or collaborate with a curriculum designer and development group of Instructional Designers and Subject Matter Experts in order to develop interactive eLearning assets.


These interactive eLearning assets will be developed as a part of the learning experience for courses that are in development, existing courses that are being revised or reengineered, or separate learning assets to be used for internal development of faculty and staff.


This position requires a creative, dynamic thinker with strong writing and editing skills, and an aptitude for visual communication. Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced environment and have strong skills in Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate, and a working knowledge of theAdobe Creative Suite. Comfort with rapid, iterative prototyping is required. Strong knowledge of pedagogical best practices for online adult learners in a self-paced learning environment and graphic design experience is a plus.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Interactive E-Learning Content Development for Courses 70%

  • Assist with the development of interactive projects including scoping the required resources and timeline to meet project timelines with quality results
  • Must be able to leverage stock images, photo editing skills, basic video editing skills to compile multimedia elements within an interactive authoring program like Articulate Storyline/Adobe Captivate
  • Produce quality eLearning course material, including PowerPoint slides, diagrams, interactive exercises, and assessments
  • Work independently or collaborate with curriculum development and training teams to develop, multimedia interactive lessons and work to evaluate and improve production processes.
  • Work with subject matter experts on other teams to produce scripts, content, and timelines
  • Create/edit graphics in Photoshop
  • When needed, perform basic video editing in Adobe Premiere
  • Routinely test interactive templates and work using a screen reader to ensure accessibility standards are met
  • Incorporate accessibility standards and assets into all interactive design such as: alternative text for images, captions for short videos, etc.

Faculty/Staff Training and Development 15%

  • Develops asynchronous training materials (print, web, and video) around using video and multimedia objects for the development of Faculty and Staff.
  • Assist with training faculty and staff about interactive development processes and best practices

Quality Assurance of 3rd Party Developers 5%

  • Reviews 3rd party interactive content for quality and consistency as needed.

Research [5%]

  • Keeps abreast of developments of related instructional technologies.
  • Researches and disseminate educational technology resources and best practices in technology enhanced teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with concentration in Instructional Design, Interactive Media, Learning Systems, Education, Adult Learning, Communication, or related field required.
  • Two years related experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years of related experience preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of different instructional methods and learning preferences―live and also blended, online asynchronous/self-study
  • Experience using H5P or ability to quickly learn new interactive content authoring software
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premier Pro, Microsoft Office, and other applications to create/modify graphics, animation, audio, video, multimedia, etc.
  • Proficiency in coding (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience with adult learning theories

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical skills and experience with Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced skills and experience with Articulate Storyline and comfort with other eLearning authoring tools (Captivate, H5P,
  • Experience developing eLearning (web- based training modules), technical training videos, documentation, presentations and other training materials maintained in a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Knowledge of and experience with eLearning technical standards (SCORM, AICC, xAPI)
  • Excellent eye for minute details and consistency
  • High level of organizational skills, and ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and agile work environment
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as dictated by the project, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines and project plans
  • Experience in curriculum design and development, incorporating Section 508 guidelines
  • Knowledge of social media tools and their application in teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
