REPORTS TO: Chief of Police
PLACEMENT : Professional Grade S12
MINIMUM PAY RATE : $72,918 annually

Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY
The primary mission of the Operations Commander is to assist the Chief in the management, operation, supervision and direction of the department, and in fulfilling the departmental requirement of providing a safe teaching, working, and learning environment on campus. In addition to regular police duties, the Operations Commander shall direct and manage the department in the absence of the Chief. As examples without limitations, the Commander shall have the following typical duties and responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform all duties of a Police Officer.
2. Supervise, assign, direct, evaluate, and discipline all subordinates as required.
3. Act as a liaison between police personnel and the Chief; transmit all orders and directives of the Chief
4. Examine/review police crime/incident reports daily for completeness and conformity with department rules and regulations, the Clery Act, FERPA, or other compliance standards, and make revisions/corrections as needed.
5. May serve as the shift commander for certain shifts.
6. Manage daily operations of the department.
7. Develop departmental operational policies and procedures.
8. Ensure College compliance with all required state and federal reporting requirements.
9. Assist the Chief in the selection of new departmental employees.
10. Develop and supervise training for new employees.
11. Assists with the preparation and administration of the police department budget and has signature authority in the absence of the Chief.
12. Promote the Department’s vision, mission and goals to others and actively participate in achieving and maintaining them.
13. Work closely and cooperatively with local county, state law enforcement agencies and officials to maintain a positive cooperative working relationship.
14. Serve as the Incident Commander at all scenes while on duty, delegate as appropriate; provide oversight and guidance to supervisors and staff.
15. Oversee special projects and administration of payroll within the department and other administrative functions.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
