Job Summary
The American Sign Language Tutor in our Language Resource Center will tutor students enrolled in JCCC American Sign Language classes up to 12 hours per week, embedded in ASL classes, online, and in the LRC. The ASL Tutor will visit American Sign Language classes to announce/advertise tutoring services, and to assist as needed.
The ASL Tutor will also assist in the Language Resource Center as needed and maintain cleanliness and organization of materials in tutoring area.
Required Qualifications
Minimum completion of Intermediate American Sign Language or equivalent
High school graduate or equivalent
Excellent communication skills in both English and ASL
Ability to work independently but take direction as needed
Ability to learn and utilize effective tutoring techniques following best practices
Familiarity with Zoom or other videoconferencing software
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Interpreting, Deaf Education, or related field
Two years of tutoring or teaching experience
Additional credit hours in ASL beyond Intermediate
Native signer or like ability
