Position Summary:
The College of Natural Resources (www.cnr.uidaho.edu), University of Idaho, invites applications for a full time, 9 month tenured position as Associate or Full Professor of Natural Resource Policy and Management, and Director of the Policy Analysis Group. The position will be a part of the Department of Natural Resources and Society and Environmental Science Program, and will report to the Dean of the College of Natural Resources. Position will be based in either Moscow or Boise, determined by negotiation at time of hire, with frequent travel to either location. Anticipated start date will be August 15, 2021. The Policy Analysis Group was established by the Idaho Legislature in 1989, and serves as the primary research agency of the State of Idaho on natural resources issues. We seek an entrepreneurial team player and faculty member to join and help shape our interdisciplinary department of social and biophysical scientists to lead the next generation of research, teaching and outreach relating to the interaction of policy issues and the social and biophysical sciences influencing the management of natural resources in Idaho and the region. It is the only position in state government that provides services to the legislature and the state’s natural resource management agencies. The director oversees operations of the Policy Analysis Group and conducts policy research on natural resource management and land-use topics important to the citizens of Idaho.

Teaching and Advising: The successful applicant must have a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. They will teach 3-4 credits each year. Courses taught may include natural resource and environmental policy and economics, social science methods, or other social-ecological systems-related courses.

Scholarship and Creative Activities: The successful candidate will develop a program of research that supports the Policy Analysis Group funded through a combination of extramural funding and direct support from partner agencies.

Outreach and Extension: The successful candidate will develop and contribute to outreach efforts focused on natural resource policy analysis. They will collaborate with and provide technical expertise to policymakers, scientists and other stakeholders in the region. We look highly on candidates with a demonstrated ability to reach populations across social and economic spectrums on issues related to natural resource and environmental policy.


Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in natural resource policy or management (or related field). Experience in social science research, with an emphasis on natural resource policy, economics, and management. A proven track record of reporting and publishing applied natural resource research. Demonstrated success in applying social science to natural resource economics and management, experience in working across diverse disciplines and with stakeholder groups, strong analytical skills, and the potential to advise and mentor graduate students. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses effectively. Accomplishments and experience to merit an appointment with tenure in the College of Natural Resources.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with local and state government agencies. Experience and education in an area such as natural resource policy or management or other social or policy science related field, skill in verbal and written communication, demonstrated success in publishing in refereed journals, experience in statistical analysis and interpretation of data.
